devoted to images of Buddhism... love the peace they evoke in me.
Kwan Yin, China, 19th century, in adorned clothing and headdress, left hand in the mudra of appeasement position, right hand holding a lotus blossom, a swirling dragon at feet, standing on a lotus base.
Zhaszhou asked a monk, “How many sutras do you read in one day?”
The monk said, “Sometimes seven or eight. Sometimes ten.”
Zhaozhou said, “Oh, then you can’t read scriptures.”
The monk said, “Master, how many do you read in a day?”
Zhaozhou said, “In one day I read one word.”
